8/74 - Nos. 6 & 7; and Nos.2 (The Post Office) and 4, The Green
GV II
Four houses and Post Office; believed built as almshouses. A corner block of c.1870-1890. Red brick with dressings of gault brick in the form of block quoining. Hipped plaintiled roofs; over the Post Office is a large diamond formed in red and black fishscale tiles; sections of fishscale tiling also on Duke Street elevation. Axial chimneys of red brick. 2 storeys. A 3-window range towards The Green and a 6-window range to Duke Street. Windows mainly of 2 lights with cambered heads, the voussoirs alternately of 3 red and 3 gault bricks. Cast iron casements with diamond panes and a border of oblong panes. Various panelled doors, mainly renewed in C20. Included for group value.
