TL 40 NE EPPING UPLAND 4/3 Marles Farmhouse 22.2.52 II

House. Early C16, extensively altered late C18. Timber framed and plastered with C18 stock brick range to south. Red plain tile roof. 2 storeys, cellar and attics. South front has 3 window range vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars. Central pediment. West side has 3 small gabled wings, that to the north being original staircase tower. Internally original framing survives with jowled storey posts and stop chamfered bridging joists. Some C16 mullion window positions. Cellar is C16, partly re-faced in C18. C16 red brick chimney stack. Extensive C18 and early C19 detailing survives including doors, architraves, and moulded arcading with pilasters and moulded capitals. C16 and later side purlin roofs.
