MELLIS THE COMMON (NORTH WEST TM 07 SE SIDE) 3/28 White House Farm House 29.7.55 (formerly listed as White House and two barns, Mellis Green)

Farmhouse. Late C16, altered and extended C19 and early C20. Timber frame, plastered. Plaintiled roof. 3 cell lobby entry plan. 2 storeys and attic. Ground floor: entrance to right of centre, 4 panelled architraved door, to left a large architraved transomed 3-light glazing bar casement, further left a C19 flat headed canted bay window. First floor 3-light glazing bar case ments and a small early opening, all with architraves. Rebuilt axial ridge stack behind entrance, a C19 stack inserted between hall and service end to left. Left gable end original curved brackets to plates, first floor 4-light window. Right gable end original curved brackets to plates, ground floor lean-to outshut, first floor and attic architraved glazing bar casements. To rear a half glazed door into hall with a first floor architraved sash, ground floor canted bay window behind parlour. A low gabled clay lump dairy addition behind service end. Attached to left an early C20 1 storey addition with gable end to front, stack to rear. Interior: close studding, ground floor 5- light chamfered mullioned window opening, stop chamfered binding beam, stairs in front of stack with a first floor 4-light window with a stud as king mullion, flanking diamond mullions; large cranked braces from jowled posts to cambered tie beams, butt purlin roof with arched braces to collars, cranked windbraces, ridge piece. Partly moated site.
