MELLIS THE COMMON (SOUTH EAST TM 07 SE SIDE) 3/186 - Barn about 30m south west 21.5.86 of Cowpasture Farm House -- (formerly listed as Barn, II Mellis Green)
Barn. C17 origins, largely rebuilt in late C18 or early C19 reusing C16 timbers. Timber frame, weatherboarded, rendered and corrugated sheet clad. Steeply pitched corrugated sheet roofing. 5 bays and 2 bays, 5 bay section has a central 2 bay midstrey to rear with opposed opening. Earlier 2 bays to right are open fronted to rear. An open fronted lean-to attached to left of midstrey. Projecting into yard from end bays are 1 storey sheds. Interior: early bays have arched braces to tie beams, double butt purlins and collars to principal rafters, elsewhere studding with mid-rail, straight braces to tie beams. Included for group value.
