2/49 Lea Farmhouse -
GV II
Farmhouse; mid C16 with extensions of c.1600 and later. 2 storeys, part with attic. 4 windows. Timber-framed and plastered. Hipped concrete plaintiled roof. An axial chimney of C17 red brick. Early C19 small-pane 3-light casements, those at ground storey with wooden hoodmoulds. C19 6-panelled entrance door with the upper pair of panels glazed. Gabled plaintiled mid C19 canopy on carved brackets. Interior: Some unmoulded heavy framing of mid C16 exposed at centre of house. An extension to right has arch windbraced studding and a blocked diamond mullioned window. Lintelled C16/C17 open fireplace in the hall, and a rear service chimney to right of C17. A rear mid C18 staircase wing has a stair with turned balusters and wreathed handrail. Medieval moat surrounds the house.
