Details

BERWICK ST. JAMES HIGH STREET SU 03 NE east side) 3/11 Godwins 23.3.60 (Formerly Listed as Godwin's House) GV II Detached house. Mid C17, altered C18. Flint and limestone bands, tiled roof, brick stacks. Gable end to road. Two-storey and attic, 3-windowed; sashes. Central 6-panelled door, 12-pane sash either side with yellow brick dressings and segmental heads. First floor has three 2-pane sashes. Left return has 3-light ovolo- mullioned casement with hoodmould to ground, first floor and attic. Late C18 rear wing is rebuild of earlier outshut, 9-pane sash to left return, 2-light casements to rear, the centre one with keystone, triple hipped roof with brick dentilled eaves cornice. Interior has deep chamfered beams with runout stops. Mid C18 eared fireplace and doors with 2 fielded panels to first floor. Late C18 services with doors with 4 fielded panels. Early C19 door with reeded surround with paterae. (Unpublished records of RCHM (England), Salisbury.)
