2/94 Cartshed and attached - stable, 50m north of Norton Hall

GV II

Cartshed with granary above; C17, the granary inserted in C19. The stable to left probably also C17 and C19. Timber-framed and weatherboarded. Slated roof, once thatched. Cartshed in 4 bays, side entry: freestanding posts at the front with well-formed archbraces up to the wallplate, and jowled heads supporting tie-beams (which were cut back or removed in C19). Primary-braced studding and clasped purlin roof. The granary floor was inserted just below eaves level, with binding beams supported on bolted knees at bay intervals. The stable has a pair of C19 boarded doors.
