Details
1. LIDGATE LIDGATE 2006 John-o-Lidgate' s House (Formerly listed as TL 7258 25/332 Suffolk House) 19.12.61.
II* GV
2. A C16 timber-framed house with exposed timber-framing and plaster infil. The ground storey on the front is boarded. The site is locally associated with the house of John of Lidgate a monk, poet and author of Bury St Edmunds who was born in Lidgate circa 1370 and whose brass is in the Churoh of St Mary. 2 storeys and attics. The north-west end is in red brick with a gable having crow-stepped ornamentation and the remains of octagonal chimney stacks. On the return front there is some moulded brick hexagonal panelling. The windows are mainly C20 casements but there are a number of original windows with moulded mullions. Roof pantiled, hipped at the south-east end, with 1 gabled dormer. The interior has good exposed framing with moulded and carved beams and a fine carved fireplace lintel with a central motif said to be the pome- granit of Katherine of Aragon.
Lidgate Stores, John O Lidgate's House, Crispen Cottage, and adjoining premises, Cottage to the north-west of Crispen Cottage and Lidgate Cottage form a group.
