Details

REDISHAM TM 48 SW 8/34 Mill's Farmhouse 1-9-53 - II Farmhouse. Early C17, extended and restored early C20. Timber framed core; the ground floor is cased in red brick and the first floor is tile-hung. Pantiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. 2-cell form with lobby entry; 3-cell form as extended. Reproduction casement windows with diamond-leaded glass, some incorporating re-used panels of stained glass. The C20 brick porch has a good plank door, panelled on the outer face: this may well be the original, in which case it is a rare survival on a farmhouse. The porch has side windows with ovolo-moulded mullions, probably taken from elsewhere in the house. Internal sawtooth stack. To the rear there are original ovolo-moulded mullion windows. Both ground floor rooms have ovolo-moulded bridging beams and cornice; in the hall similarly-moulded joists are exposed. Against the end wall of the hall is C17 panelling, each panel with a sunk lozenge. Both the parlour and the chamber above have fireplaces with moulded stucco arches. Some exposed studding. Original newel stairs (both flights). The roof has 2 rows of butt purlins and cranked wind-bracing.
