TM 37 SW HUNTINGFIELD CRATFIELD ROAD

5/92 Hill Farmhouse - - II

Farmhouse. Early-mid C16 with probably C17 extension at the right hand end; on the extreme right hand side is a mid C20 addition. A single long range, the earlier part with a 3-cell form and probably originally cross-passage entry. Timber framed, part plastered but mainly cased in red brick; plaintiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. 5 windows, mainly mid C20 casements; to the left hand side is a lobby entrance with gabled brick porch and 6-panel door, the upper 2 panels glazed; boarded door to right hand side. The later part has an original ovolo-moulded mullioned window at the rear. 2 internal stacks. The hall has a very fine roll-moulded beam and joist ceiling with enriched carved stops to the main beam and carved storey posts; this room also has a blocked 4-light mullioned window. The parlour and the room directly above also have roll-moulded beam and joist ceilings. Some good exposed framing on the first floor.
