Details
MICKFIELD WETHERINGSETT ROAD TM 16 SW 2/152 Mickfield Hall - - II
Farmhouse, formerly manor house. Part C15, but mainly rebuilt c.1600. Early C20 remodelling. Timber-framed and roughcast. Plaintiled roof, the cross- wing to right is hipped. Axial chimneys of red brick. 3-cell plan; the service cell is contained within the cross-wing. 2 storeys and attics. C20 casements and 4-panelled entrance door. A narrow 2-bay cross-wing to right was probably built as a solar wing in C15; it has arch-braced close-studding and an arch-braced cambered tie-beam at the open truss; the wing was enlarged and re-roofed in C19. The hall range was demolished and rebuilt c.1600; good close-studding and clasped-purlin roof. In the parlour the floor joists are chamfered, in the hall laid flat and plain. A complete encircling mediaeval moat.
