Quilter Monument in Churchyard of St Mary

Chest tomb, c.1911. White ashlar. English Baroque. Raised on an earth mound and approached by two steps. Rectangular with diagonally set scroll buttresses to the corners with acanthus decoration. Swags to all four sides with winged cherubs' heads to the upper centre of each of the longer faces. Coat of arms to the eastern, shorter face. The west face has an inscription to William Cuthbert Quilter, first baronet 1814-1911, his wife, Mary Anne d. 1927, and son Roger Cuthbert Quilter, composer d. 1953. Inscriptions along the sides to the second Baronet, d. 1952 and third Baronet d. 1959 and other members of the family.
