7/125 Church of St. Mary 7.12.66 - II*
Parish church. Nave and chancel with C12 (or earlier) core; much restored 1878, the tower and aisle being entirely of this date. Nave, chancel, west tower, north aisle, south porch. Flint rubble, with some coursed work to the lower nave and chancel; stone dressings; slated roof. Small square tower with octagonal spire: the plinth incorporates flushwork panels from the old tower; the bell-chamber stage has large 2-light openings in Decorated style and colonettes to the quoins. 3-bay nave, 2-bay chancel, all with 2-light windows except the east chancel window which has 3 lights. The chancel has pilaster buttresses to the north and south, probably C12. Simple C14 gabled porch, much restored. C15 octagonal font, moulded but not carved, brought from St. Andrew's Church, Norwich. C14 cusped piscina and drop-seat sedilia in south sanctuary. Small plaster Hanoverian Royal Arms above tower arch. 2 simple early C19 tablets on north chancel wall. Graded II* for surviving medieval work.
