Details
HILMARTON CHURCH ROAD SU 07 NW (south side) 6/245 Nos 30 and 31 GV II Pair of Poynder estate cottages, dated 1875, rockfaced stone with ashlar dressings, stone slate roofs and centre ashlar ridge stack. l 1/2 storeys, symmetrical front with advanced paired barge-boarded gables to centre and set-back porches in side walls of end gables. Mullion-and-transom windows with iron lattice lights. Centre gables have 2-light window with hoodmould over 1:2:1-light ashlar canted bay to each house, and main range each side has Tudor-arched moulded entry with angle buttress and carved date plaque over. End walls have single light below and 2-light above. Identical to Folly Cottage, Rudloe, Box C.P. of 1870 and probably based on plan No 1 in Henry Weaver's Hints on Cottage Architecture, 1848.
