SOWERBY BRIDGE BURNLEY ROAD SE 0225-0325 (west side, off) 6/22 Luddenden Foot Barn approx 2 metres to south-west of Upper Foot Farmhouse and linking archway GV II Barn and archway. Dated "SM 1753". Coursed squared stone, stone slate roof. 5 internal bays, archway links north-east corner of barn to south-west corner of house (qv). Barn: quoins. Central round-arched cart-entry with tiestones, imposts and raised keystone. Blocked C19 doorway, with window to left. Mistal doorway at lower level at left end has tiestones and is tied into quoins. At right end a chamfered quoined doorway, the lintel with rounded inner corners and date, and to its right a tall 2-light chamfered mullion widow. Square vents and, it upper level flanking cart-entry, 2 chamfered, arched vents with sunk spandrels. Shaped knocker to left, gable coping, ridge skylights. Springing from right-hand angle and dying into corner of house is segmental archway with flat coping. Rear: opposing cart-entry. Opposing doorway at left end masked by C20 pent-roofed stable (not of special interest); contemporary bay projecting on right has quoins and a blocked chamfered quoined doorway. Interior: on lower level at west end is stalling with wooden partitioning for seven beasts and hayloft above. Roof trusses have queen posts with angle braces and collars supporting short king posts. Large-scantling purlins and ridge piece.
