Details
ALLINGTON BOSCOMBE SU 23 NW 4/11 Old Rectory II*
Parsonage house, now house. C15 and 1836 by T.M. Shurmer, rendered and colourwashed with slate roofs. 'L' plan with east wing containing medieval hall and parlour, and north wing replacing probable north end in 1836. Entrance in C20 polygonal tiled porch in re-entrant angle. Earlier build has paned casement windows, north wing has 2-bay elevation to south divided by full height pilasters, and 12-pane and 6-pane sashes, the lower windows slightly recessed. Low pitched slate roof hipped at ends and central stack. Interior: South end bay of east wing contains medieval end hall, ceiled in C16 with moulded cross beams and on east side a 2-light square headed cinquefoil cusped window. Stack to hall inserted in late C16-early C17, in south-west angle, and has mid C17 carved overmantel. Adjoining bay contained parlour with longitudinal passage on east side. Closed tie beam trusses with central post to cambered collar and curved struts to principals. Two tiers of purlins with windbraces to upper tier. No ridge. Timbers smoke blackened. C19 section of house has rear stair with mahogany handrail on turned newels. (Plans and survey by RCHM).
