1/74 Chicklade Bottom Farmhouse

GV II

Coaching inn, now farmhouse. Mid C18. Dressed limestone, tiled roof with half hip to left and gable end brick stacks and coped verges. Two-storey, 4-window. Central 4-panelled door in eared architrave, 12-pane sash in moulded architrave with keystone either side. First floor has three 12-pane sashes in moulded architraves; all sashes are C19 with 'horns'. Right return has single light casement in stone case to attic. single-storey C19 extensions attached to left and right returns. Rear and interior not accessible at time of survey (November 1985). Known as The New Inn during C18, following the turnpiking of the Amesbury to East Knoyle road in 1762. (V.C.H. Wiltshire, Vol II, 1980)
