1/87 Three urns on the site of Old Fonthill Abbey
GV II
Three urns. Probably mid C19. Limestone. Large urn in centre has square corniced plinth with lion's heads on each side, urn is decorated with swags and scrolled volutes. Smaller urn either side on square corniced plinth with rosettes, urns with gadrooned rims and strap decoration to sides. Said to have been brought here by the Marquess of Westminster from the Paris Exhibition of 1855 or 1867, following the demolition of Beckford's Abbey and the building nearby of a country house by William Burn for the Westminsters (demolished 1955).
