Priory House

(Formerly listed as Priory Lodge)

GV
II

The surviving west wing of 'The Priory', a large house with late medieval origins which is now largely demolished. Some fragments are said to have been removed to Corsham. North front of present house is early to mid C19. Two storeys. Ashlar. Moulded cornice and parapet. Hipped slate roof. Three slender Gothic buttresses, with one offset each, divide the front. The buttresses have moulded tops and cusped pointed inset panels. Two windows per floor with four-centred traceried heads inside square-headed openings. Rectangular hood-moulds over. Sashes with Gothic glazing bars intact to first-floor. Ground-floor windows filled with plate-glass, bottom halves cut away for two large garage doors below. External wooden stair to east side where the exposed broken masonry of the demolished parts of the house still remains.

Priory House with its boundary walls, the Priory Barn and Nos 1A to 3 (consec) form a group.
