Details

BRIGHOUSE PINNAR LANE SE 12 SW No 176 (Highfield Farmhouse and 3/153 Highfield Farm Cottage) (formerly listed as High Field Farmhouse under Southowram) 3.1.67 II

House in 2 occupations. 1677 with barn back-to-back with earlier roof, stone rendered and stone slate roof. House is of 2 storeys and 3 bays, with double chamfered mullions to 1st 2 bays of 5 and 6 lights with same over. 3rd bay has doorway, probably resited, with slightly arched lintel with date. To right is double framed chamfered mullion window with square reveals of four lights with 5-light window over. This would appear to be an added bay (early C18) as the crocketed finial defines earlier gable. Coped gables with similar finial to left and to barn gable. Barn has segmental arched cart entry and interior of 5 bays of king post trusses, some closed by vertical struts; mortices to the soffit indicate earlier close studded walls in every case. East end hipped with queen posts and collar.

This rear barn would appear to have been a house of early C16 date retaining its roof, which is a rare survival.
