Details
SOWERBY BRIDGE LONG CAUSEWAY SE 0224 & SE 0324 (west side, off), 8/114 Luddenden Foot Brown Hill - II 2 cottages, now one, with attached barn. Early C19, of 2 builds. Coursed dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys, cottages 1 bay each, barn 2 bays. Quoins. Cottages: each has a plain stone surround doorway on right (that to left cottage with C20 pent porch, that to right cottage blocked and with window) and a 3-light flat-faced mullion window to each floor. End stacks. Barn on right of different build: on left, round-arched cart-entry with tiestones, voussoirs and raised key- stone with tall round-arched light above. At right end a mistal door with tie- stones. Rear: straight joint between barn and cottages. Windows of cottages have chamfered jambs, probably reused. Barn has threshing door. Left return: stack is external in the gable, resting on a flat slate. Interior: barn has queen post trusses with angle braces. Date is reported to bescratched on chimney stack.
