NZ35SW HOUGHTON-LE-SPRING FRONT STREET (north side) Newbottle. 4/39 (Inset) No. 22 (North Farm) and adjacent stable - coachhouse, railings and gate.

House and farm buildings. Mid C18. Coursed squared limestone house; rubble outbuildings and wall, Welsh slate roofs, cast-iron railings. House: 2 storeys, 3 windows. Central 4-panelled door in Tuscan doorcase with corniced canopy; projecting cills and flat lintels to all windows, which are modern casements. 2 end chimneys to roof with slightly swept eaves. Interior : staircase has 2 plain square balusters to a tread, dado and handrail of rounded section. 3-panelled doors in architraves; Gothick iron chimney piece on first floor. Stable-coachhouse has 2 loose boxes with loft over and garage. Elevation to street : one blank bay; 2 high oblong openings with hit-and-miss lower, fixed upper shuttering. Low wall and railings enclose area in front of both buildings.
