Details
BAXTERLEY WIGSTON HILL SP29NE (South side) 1/87 Baxterley Old Hall - II Farmhouse. C16 origins. Possibly largely rebuilt by Thomas Strong early/mid C18; some C19 alterations. Brick. Plain-tile roof has brick gable parapet to right. Large composite central internal stack, largely rebuilt in C19/C20 brick; rear wing has stone and brick external stack. Lobby entry T-plan with wing to rear. 2 storeys; 3-window range. Regular front has central plank door with painted brick reveals set in outer opening. C19 two-light casements with horizontal glazing bars; first floor has narrower windows and small one-light central window. Openings have brick segmental arches throughout, with painted keystones to ground floor. One-storey lean-to addition on right has 3-light window. Left return side, probably rebuilt C19, is a one-window range. Rear wing of older brickwork. Interior: room to right has ceiling beams. Room to left has moulded cross beams on curved brackets with leaf carving; C19 partition inserted at one end. Some late C17/early C18 two-panelled doors. (VCH: Warwickshire: Vol IV, p25)
