II GV

2. A practically continuous range of small, mainly 2 storey properties which are mediaeval in origin. It is evident that some date from C16 or earlier, and remainder have a fair amount of C17 timber framing intact. Parts have been renewed in brickwork and much has been covered with modern roughcast but, considered as a whole, it is felt that the group is well worth preservation. Roofs are mainly of old tiles, a few having dormers and they present an interesting informal composition, particularly when viewed from the gardens at the rear. No 49 is a C16 2 storey plus attic house of close set studding with diagonal bracing; first floor is jettied and has massive console brackets. Two small flush dormers and brindle tile roof are modern restorations. Plain facsimile oak door, two modern splayed bays at ground floor. Nos 51 & 53 have later (C18) 2 storey plus attic. 2 window fronts of red brickwork with camberheaded openings, stone rustications, string band and plinth. 3 sashes in cased frames, 2 hipped dormers on upper floors.

Nos 49 to 63 (odd) form a group
