Details

SOWERBY BRIDGE SOWERBY LANE SE 0225 & SE 0325 (west side), 6/225 Luddenden Foot Sand House - II Laithehouse. Late C17-early C18. Coursed dressed stone, stone slate roof. 1½ storeys, house and barn each of 2 bays. Quoins. House: from left to right: a 4-light flat-faced mullion window; a 4-light chamfered mullion window with short 3-light chamfered mullion window above; board door in chamfered surround. Stack to left, in front roof pitch, and to right end, the flue set diagonally on stack with broaches and cornice. Barn on right: chamfered, quoined cart-entry on left with monolithic lintel has slit vents to its right and chamfered mistal door with tie-stones to far right. Rear: late C19-C20 cottage built on not of special interest, but to far right the old rear wall is exposed and has 2 square, chamfered lights (one blocked). Left return: 2-light chamfered window in gable. Interior: house: stud partition wall divides bays; right-hand bay has stone fireplace with deep lintel and chamfered ledge; left-hand bay has stone fireplace with later set-pot, original spine-beams and lst-floor floorboards, and stone stairs at rear with wooden door at base and pantry under flight. Barn: queen strut roof. In state of disrepair at time of resurvey.
