6/78 The Priory including attached section of 20/02/67 garden wall
GV II
House. Late C16/early C17. Timber framed and plastered but with red brick fronts to north and east. Of 'L' plan form with gabled pegtile roof but hipped at north east corner. Of 2 storeys but with single storey rear lean-to's. The east front is of C18 red brickwork with a parapet, moulded cornice, string band and plinth. This has two 3 light leaded light iron casements and one blank recess, over one similar window and one double hung sash with small panes with shutters. The north elevation of the main block has 4 double hung sash windows with small panes and shutters, over 3 similar windows and off-centre baffle entry front door with flat hood on curved brackets, all set in early C19 red brickwork. A lower ridge line C19 extension at the west end has one double hung sash window with small panes on each floor. There is a large square stack off- centre through front roof slope and smaller stack at the west gable end. Internally the timber frame is exposed with stop chamfered bridging joists, wide span tie beams and jowled posts. A newel stair with part contemporary hand rail winds up behind the main stack. An C18 garden wall is attached to north east corner and curves around the frontage, reduced in height on north side.
