TL 51 NW HATFIELD BROAD OAK RYES LANE
3/118 Ryes Farmhouse 26/05/83 (Formerly listed as Ryes Farm) GV II
Farmhouse. C17 and late C18. Part timber framed and plastered and part red Flemish bond brickwork. Substantially 2 storeyed but with single storey extension block at north end of front. Of 2 major builds, with a gabled peg tile roofed block at the north end and later brick unit at the south also with its own pegtile gabled roof. The C17 structure has 3 light C19 casements each with 3 square panes to each sash, and a large stack through the ridgeline against the north gable of the later block. This has 2 gabled dormers with C20 casements and a rebuilt ridgeline stack. The first floor has 3 double hung sash windows over a string course, two similar windows under segmental arched heads and a C20 door through the reduced opening provided for a similar window. To the south is a large C20 crosswing extension with pegtile roof and jetty. The C19 front extension is of brick and flint with a tall gable end stack and black boarding in the apex of the gable.
