Details
HEWELSFIELD UNDERHILL, BROCKWEIR SO 50 SW (north side) 5/54 Spring Cottage 7.8.54 - II Dwelling, also at sometime a brew-house. Dated 1700, but parts probably C17. Rendered rubble, concrete tile roof to gable brick stacks. T-plan with symmetrical front and projecting stair turret partly built into hill slope. Two storeys, 3-windowed, two C17 cross casements and a small central 2-light casement under wood, over 3-light casement and one small casement; central plank door in chamfered opening with painted inscription '17 MHOO' in later porch. Interior has small tight spiral stair in turret, back, but also remains of a stair by a later fireplace in ground floor, left. Some stone floors. Original roof structure. In the right gable are two blocked stone lights, now rendered over. Property stands hard up to road edge.
