Farmhouse. 1661. Rendered and ashlared, Welsh slate roof with 3 brick stacks, each with 3 diagonally set flues (but one now missing at left end) at back eaves. Two storeys, part basement, and attic; main front 3+1+1-windowed, all 4-pane sash to flat lintols first floor and slight segmental heads ground floor, and left of door a 3-light sash with 4-pane central unit. In bay 4 is plank door in porch with very flat 4-centre moulded sandstone head and gabled slate roof, all approached by seven stone steps. Under the 3-light sash a small square 2-light chamfered mullion casement, also to basement a 4-light chamfered mullion casement under single stopped drip, and, extreme right a blocked opening, possibly door, with similar drip. South-east end, right, is 3-storey and attic, with 3-light chamfered mullion casement under a drip, over 4-pane sash over 2-light sash, over C20 door to basement (left) and deep-set sash. Interior: roof in 8 bays, some evidence of light windbracing, and a blocked 3-light mullioned casement in gable. At first floor, right, panelled dado, and plain deep bressummer fire with moulded surround. At ground floor, left, large stone fireplace with moulded surround and overmantel on 4 consoles and inscription 'Edificat Sully AD 1437: Redificat (sic) Soilwell Manor 1661'. This room with good fielded panels and dado rail and a blanked door from adjoining room. Large central room has plain moulded ceiling cornice, large sandstone lintol. From entrance hall an arched door in 4x4 panels with C17 mouldings, to stair turret with wood stair with round newel posts some with ball finials, and 3 single fixed lights, externally chamfered and with dripstones. There are many plain plank doors. Although much modified, this remains a farmhouse of importance in the parish.
