Details
TIDENHAM GENERAL ST 59 NE 10/194 Monument to Walter Webley in the churchyard c12 metres south east of tower face of the Church of St Mary and St Peter GV II Chest tomb. Mid to late C17. Sandstone. Thick flat top to moulded edge, 2 arched panels with egg-and-dart edge mould north and south, east with cartouche containing coat of arms surmounted by arm with sword, west with roundel with rosette and enriched surround, also 2 small columns with cushion-like caps; two similar columns are carved in high relief on the south face. Moulded base, part sunk at time of survey, December 1983. Inscriptions include 'Walter Webley, his son ..... also interred ...' in 1703. The rich design of the tomb suggests a C17 rather than an C18 date. In alignment with Elinor Webley and Christian Webley monuments (qv), and are of a group of four family memorials.
