Details

INCHEBROOK 1. 5227 The Oaklands Farmhouse SO 8400 5/97 12.4.79 II* GV 2. Circa 1730s-1740s remodelling of earlier house with mill attached to south (qv). Two and a half storeys, ashlar on chamfered plinth, plat band. Modern tile roof with 3 dormers, outer gabled, central one segmental, leaded casements, 5 windows with raised surrounds, glazing bar sashes. Central doorcase with 6 panelled door and segmental fanlight, keystone and carved spandrels. Double pile house, rear ridge has an ashlar chimney with moulded capping. Very good interior: panelled hall with fluted Boric pilasters and triglyph caps, panelled doors with contemporary paintings above doorcases. Panelled soffits to stairwell arch and entrance door arch. South room has shell niche cupboard and, on west wall, a 4 light window with chamfered mullions and the trace of a drip. The north room is also panelled and retains its shutters and fluted Doric doorcase. Original staircase with twisted barley sugar balusters in oaks cut string with decorative inlays, panelled dado.
