Dated 1698. Good example of a cross-gabled Cotswold house. Two and a
half storeys. Coursed rubble with stone-tile roof. Central chimney.
Chamfered plinth. Weathered bands at ground and first floor lintel levels.
Two attic gables with moulded oval lights above windows. Five windows,
mostly mullion and transom type with ovolo mouldings. Central doorway
with chamfered surround and Sun Fire Insurance Plaque. Twin gabled return
to right with dated central door ("R(ichard) W(ebb) 1698" on lintel) and
flanking single light windows. Left hand return has central staircase
windows at different levels, fenestration irregular including a 3 light
and several 2 light mullion windows; basement openings.
Interior: dog-leg staircase with square newels and ball-finials, twisted
balusters to straight string and a flat handrail with moulded sides.
Oak door in stair hall with 3 raised and fielded panels. Some panelling
in north-east ground floor room; room above has bolection fireplace and
main beam has ovolo mouldings and decorative stops. Thought to be an
early example of a double-pile house.
