Details
1. ST JOHN'S ROAD, PENGE, SE20 4407 Nos 1 to 12 (consec) (The Royal Naval Asylum) TQ 37 SE 1/213 7.2.72. II
2. These Almshouses for the widows of Naval Officers were founded by Queen Adelaide in memory of William IV about 1837. They are in Tudor Gothic style. Red brick with a diaper pattern of grey headers. Slate roofs with groups of octagonal red brick chimneys. Casement windows. 4-centred doorways with carved spandrels. The buildings are in 3 blocks of 2 storeys forming 3 sides of a courtyard. The centre has 6 windows and 6 gables, the sides 3 windows and 3 gables each. Royal Arms of William IV in the centre.
