2/102 Sir John Hervey's Summerhouse.
GV II
Summer House. 1703 for John Baron Hervey. In the grounds of Ickworth Manor House which stood east of St. Mary's Church until c.1710. 1 storey, 3 bays. Red brick with flat pilasters; moulded cornice, parapets with sunk panels between piers: the central bay has a broken pediment framing a cartouche surmounted by a crown, both of limestone. Flat roof. Windows with flat arches of gauged brick and reeded keystones of limestone; large sashes with small panes. Pair of glazed entrance doors with flat arch of gauged brick with limestone key stone. On either side, garden walling of red brick, with 2 arms returning southward about 40 yards; each arm terminated by piers of finely gauged red brick of early C18 type, with moulded oversailing cornice, plinth, and scrolled buttress linking pier head to top of wall. Top courses of wall rebuilt with concrete copings.
