SUTTON VALENCE RECTORY LANE TQ 84 NW (south side) 5/160 Sutton Place 26.4.68 II

House. Mid C16 main range with earlier C16 fragments to rear, later C17, mid C18 and later C18 alterations. Timber framed core. Front elevation rendered. Rear wing to right tile-hung. Angled rear wing with exposed framing and brick infilling. Plain tile roofs. Complex plan. Main range. Rear return wing to right in 2 sections with 2-storey closet projecting at join, lower two-thirds brick in English bond, upper part rendered, with plain tile roof. Angled wing to rear to left, in 3 sections. Short addition to left gable end. Front elevation: Later C18 facade. 2 storeys on stone plinth. Projecting eaves with flat soffits and moulded wooden cornice. Hipped roof with large gablets. Right hip returns for short distance with lower ridge, breaking to higher ridge again beyond closet. Central corbelled multiple brick stack to rear, projecting brick stack on stone base to right gable end, further projecting brick stack in English bond, on stone base, beyond closet to right side of wing. Regular 5-window front of glazing-bar sashes in open boxes; one tripartite sash to each end of each floor, and three 12-pane sashes set close together towards centre. Shallow moulded cornices to ground-floor windows. Central recessed panelled door in moulded wooden architrave with flat shallow dentilled and corniced hood on consoles. Central cupola with bell. Interior not inspected but said to contain moulded stone fireplace and panelling.
