3/27 Lych Gate to St.James's Churchyard
GV II
Lych gate : c.1885 by William Butterfield in memory of Harriet Garnett. Ashlar red sandstone and timber framing with Welsh slate roof and red tile ridge. Rectangular plan. Gabled stone side walls are coped and finialled. They have slight buttresses and are pierced by 2 trefoil headed openings. Roof is supported by 3 arch-braced timber trusses sprung from stone corbels. The central truss has the carved memorial inscription. Lych gate contains some simple but substantial wooden gates with iron strap hinges.
