Gates, gate piers and flanking walls extending approx 17.5m.
1765; by 'Capability' Brown; moved from original position in
Tong, Shropshire, 1977. Squared and coursed sandstone.
Latticed wrought iron gates with triangular heads and
fleurs-de-lys; piers have shallow trefoil-headed niches and
pinnacles with vine crockets and pineapple finials; pier to
left inscribed: POSTERITATI/SACRUM/IMPENSIS/GEO.DURANT AR/1821
(Dedicated to his descendants at the expense of Geo. Durant,
1821); each pier encircled by loosely knotted carved rope,
which is continued round embattled parapets of flanking curved
walls; end piers similar to others but ball finials now
missing at time of resurvey (1990); piers have relief symbols
e.g. cross, cornucopia, hive, flower, shells; walls have
nowy-headed niches with gadrooned bases, Tuscan columns and
segmental-headed hoods.
