INGATESTONE AND FRYERNING TQ69NE HALL LANE, Ingatestone 723-1/7/360 .(East side) Cistern house 50 metres north-east of Ingatestone Hall GV II Shown on OS map as Well. Cistern house. Early C19 or earlier. .Red brick in English bond, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Circular, with door to N, and slatted gabled dormers to E, Sand W. Plain boarded door in slatted gable. Conical roof, with earthenware garden cloche at apex. The roof structure is of oak, in 8 panels, each with a curved butt-purlin. 2 tenoned rafters above each purlin. 4 tenoned rafters below each, and 3 empty mortices in each alternate p~rlin in the 4 panels which have gables. One collar tenoned and pegged between 2 opposite principal rafters. Cistern about 1.S0m deep. Carpentry of high quality. A rare example of its type.
