House. Late C18, refenestrated early C19. Probably for William Skaife.
Coursed squared gritstone rubble, grey slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays, with
2-storey bay added to left and 2-bay barn, now part of house, to right.
House, main 3-bay facade: central 6-panel door in stone surround; flanking
and first-floor windows: 4-pane sashes in plain surrounds. Moulded stone
gutter. Gable coping, end stacks. Bay to left: inserted 8-pane window to
ground floor; stone gutter brackets; shaped kneeler to gable coping to left;
additional flue built against house stack, right. Barn to right: cambered
arch blocked and window inserted similar to house type; inserted window
above. Blocked loading doorway first floor right. Shaped kneeler and gable
coping right. Interior not inspected. The refenestration and blocking of
the barn doorway is probably contemporary with the construction of the barn
in the yard (qv) in 1828. The unusual moulded gutter brackets which project
to enclose the downpipes is also seen at Dacre Hall (qv).
