House, offices and barn with attached granary and cartshed
embellished as landscape feature. Early/mid C18. Coursed
limestone rubble, brick to first floor of granary and cartshed
range; stone slate roofs; stone stack to left side and rear
end ridge stack to house to centre, brick stack to gable end
of barn.
Main facade is symmetrical composition in Gothick style of 7
bays with single bay of 2 storeys to centre forming front of
house, gabled single-bay pavilions to left and right
terminating blind screen wall to left, forming gable end of
barn to right.
Single-storey with basement, house to centre has 2 storeys;
8-window range. House to centre has round-headed 10/6-pane
sash in flat unmoulded surround with keystone, impost blocks
and stone cill to first floor flanked by 2 blind oculi; ground
floor has half-glazed door with pointed overlight recessed
behind pointed moulded stone surround to centre flanked by 2
small lancet windows with glazing bars; opposed single-flight
stone stairs to front door with basket-arched opening with
flat stone surround below front door to centre giving access
to recessed door to basement.
Wing to right has 2 pairs of lancet windows with
diamond-pattern leaded lights in stone surrounds, pavilion to
right end has blind pointed window with Y-tracery with
imitation diamond-pattern leading scratched in render and
hoodmould; owlhole with hoodmould in gable; lancet window with
glazing bars in basement to centre right.
Wing to left matches that to right in all details to form
symmetrical composition but with all windows blind and without
window to basement. Band course over ground floor; embattled
parapet, with modillion eaves cornice to house to centre only;
crow-stepped gables.
Elevation of barn to right side has 2 gabled porches with
pairs of plank doors with stone-slated canopies, single-storey
lean-to addition between porches has boarded infill to front,
single-storey lean-to to right under flying buttress; granary
and cartshed range to right has 3 pairs of plank doors to
ground floor, three 2-light leaded casements to first floor.
Side and rear elevations of house have 2- and 3-light timber
casements, gabled porch to left side. 8-bay barn has raised
cruck trusses, possibly re-used, some with saddles, collars
and double tier of purlins, plank ridge.
INTERIORS of house, granary and cartshed range not inspected.
