Cottage with attached cartshed, granary and stable range.
Probably early C18, stable may be later. Coursed squared
limestone rubble; stone slate roof; 3 rebuilt brick ridge and
left-end stacks; brick stack beside gable to left. Long range
with 7 gables to front and 7 gables to rear has attached
single-storey stable to right.
Front facing into yard is single-storey and attic; 4-window
range. Two 2-light leaded casements to left with chamfered
stone cills and flat arch lintel to far left are ground floor
of Barton Cottage; to right two unglazed 2-light timber
windows with flat arch lintels and chamfered stone cills.
Gables have four 2-light leaded casements to left, to far left
Barton Cottage; to right 2 unglazed 2-light timber windows;
gable to far right is without window, now rendered and with
C20 timber-framing.
Ground floor has 2 doorways to right, to far right with lower
half of plank stable door; Barton Cottage to left has plank
door with glazed panel in C20 timber porch; to centre 3 former
openings to cartshed with quoins to opening, 2 stone piers and
timber lintel now infilled in stone. First floor has plank
door inserted between 2 gables to centre left and approached
by external stair in concrete blockwork with attached brick
single-storey lean-to.
Rear elevation of main range has four 2-light leaded casements
and one 2-light unglazed window in gables, 2 plank doors in
gables to left. One unglazed 3-light timber window to ground
floor left, 3 openings to former cartshed with stone piers and
timber lintel, further opening with pair of plank doors. Flush
quoins to left and right angles. Attached stable to right has
front to left return enclosing stable yard; through-passage to
right; boarded front has 4 small 2- and 3-light windows, 2
plank stable doors, panel of 4 sliding hatches to front left;
to right of through-passage pair of plank doors open to rear
away from yard giving access to garage.
INTERIOR of main range to right has remains of early C18 plank
partitions to first floor, heavy cross-axial beams to ground
floor, butt purlin roof with heavy extended collars now with
plank ridge partially collapsed. Stable to right has 2 loose
boxes and hay store; loose boxes have feeding racks and
troughs and plank partitions, that to left possibly C18 or
C19; loft over to left, 4-bay butt-purlin roof structure with
plank ridge visible to right.
