House, now offices. Late C17 and early/mid-C18 with later
alterations. Stucco to front, coursed squared limestone rubble
to sides and rear; artificial slate roof; rebuilt brick left-
and right-end stacks.
2 storeys and attic; 5-window range. Five 9/9-pane sashes with
crown glass in moulded architraves with projecting cills to
first floor. Ground floor has large late C19 shopfront with 3
windows divided into large panes by vertical moulded glazing
bars; C20 glazed doors with overlights.
3 moulded pilasters to each side and centre with elaborately
carved console brackets above supporting moulded cornice over
fascia. To ground floor right, pair of 5-panel doors in
moulded architrave and 4/4-pane sash to far right in moulded
architrave similar to first floor windows. Two gabled dormers
with C19 two-light timber casements. Moulded timber eaves
cornice. Coursed squared limestone rubble wing to rear left
has one 4-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion and transom window
to each of ground and first floors, to first floor with some
leaded lights. Stuccoed wing to rear right and rear of main
range have timber arcade to ground floor, now filled in, of
Doric columns without bases on padstones, probably full round
section but now incorporated into wall, supporting simple
frieze and cornice.
To left side return of rear wing, angle between columns and
frieze filled by shaped boards extending under frieze towards
centre of bay and terminated by square section pointed
pendants; similar pendant visible inside rear hall of main
range. Some timber of arcade apparently renewed.
INTERIOR has early C18 well staircase from ground to second
floor with two turned balusters to a tread and shaped
tread-ends; ridged and cornice handrail ramped up to landings;
responding dado panelling. Boxed-out beams with run moulding
in ground floor front left and staircase hall; chamfered beams
with run-out stops with broad notches on first and second
floor landings over staircase. Trenched purlin roof.
