Hotel. Mid C17, mid C18 and late C19 with C20 alterations.
Coursed squared limestone to left, stucco over timber-framing
to centre, stucco to right; clay tile roof to left and centre,
to left with coped verges, Welsh slate roof to right; groups
of 3 ashlar flues to left and right ends to left, C19 brick
right-end stack rebuilt on stone base to centre, brick left-
and right-end stacks to right.
Hotel occupies 3 buildings. To left, late C19, 2 storeys and
attic; 3-window range. First floor has three 2-light chamfered
stone mullion and transom windows with iron casements in
chamfered stone surrounds; three gabled half-dormers with
similar 2-light stone mullion-and-transom windows with pointed
heads to upper lights. Ground floor has C20 glazing in
shopfront style with four 6/3-pane sashes and half-glazed door
recessed to right in timber surround with pilasters, frieze
and moulded cornice.
To centre, mid C17, 2 gables to front, 2 3-storey bay windows,
3 storeys and attic; 3-window range. First floor has one C20
two-light casement to centre, similar 4-light glazing to front
of bay windows to left and right with similar single-light
returns. Second floor has similar windows. Ground floor has
similar arrangement of C20 windows, to bays divided by timber
mullions. 2 similar 2-light windows in gables. Shallow plinth;
moulded timber cornices breaking forward around bays over each
of the ground, first and second floors; Welsh slate roofs to
bays.
Building to right is mid C18, 3 storeys and attic; 4-window
range. First floor has four 6/6-pane sashes in plain reveals
with projecting cills; second floor has four similar 3/6-pane
sashes. Ground floor has 3 similar 6/6-pane sashes to right,
carriage entrance to left with pair of plank doors, C20 glazed
doors to interior. 3 hipped dormers with 2-light casements.
Deep plinth; band courses over ground and first floors; coved
plaster eaves cornice. INTERIORS not inspected.
