Wall, gates, lodges and Museum. Early/mid C18, Museum 1856,
mid C19 and early C20. Park wall to Park Lane and Tetbury Road
has attached or built into it, lodge to estate yard and
gateway to Cirencester Park Mansion in Park Lane, Museum of
Roman Antiquities and Kennels' Lodges in Tetbury Road.
Wall is approximately 3m high of coursed squared limestone
with quoins to angles and ashlar coping in Park Lane,
approximately 4m high at Museum becoming gradually lower and
changing to coursed squared limestone rubble, then coursed
limestone rubble with cement capping at Kennels' Lodges; one
wrought-iron footgate with spear tops in plain reveal and one
similar blocked gateway in Tetbury Road.
Lodge to estate yard is early C20, coursed squared limestone
with ashlar dressings and Welsh slate roof; single-storey
3-window range. Ground floor has two 2-light timber casements
in moulded stone surrounds with bracketed stone cills to
right, to left canted oriel with moulded stone mullions and
transoms and leaded upper lights has stone sill supported on
single console bracket, moulded cornice with pediment over
centre light; deep chamfered plinth; rusticated quoins to left
and right angles; entrance to rear.
Gateway to Cirencester Park Mansion, early/mid C18; limestone
ashlar and rock-faced limestone, has pair of 24-panel doors
with 6-panel wicket gate with cast-iron lion-head knocker with
timber panel infilling round-headed opening with rusticated
surround. Shallow plinth; impost bands from opening to quoin
strips at left and right angles; ashlar frieze, modillion
cornice and blocking course topped by 3 ball finials. Former
Museum of Roman Antiquities in Tetbury Road, present use
unknown, has attached house. Coursed squared limestone with
ashlar dressings; double-pile Welsh slate roof to Museum;
house has clay tile hipped roof with stone stack to right
side.
Museum is single high storey with two 4-light horseshoe-shaped
windows with chamfered mullions and moulded cills in moulded
stone surrounds with recessed panels below. Band course at
approximately 3m, ashlar sets back above to flat panels with
moulded band beside and over windows, pilasters rise from band
course to centre and left and right angles; 2 coped gables.
To right of Museum, flat chamfered surround to pair of iron
gates with moulded cornice and parapet over giving access to
roofed space with 6-panel door to Museum in moulded stone
architrave to left, 6-panel doors to rear and to right giving
access to house. House to right is 2-storey single-window
range; first floor has one 2-light timber casement in flat
unmoulded surround, ground floor has similar 3-light chamfered
stone mullion window; band course over ground floor; flush
quoins to left and right angles.
Kennels' Lodges in Tetbury Road, mid C19, coursed squared
limestone; clay tile roofs with coped verges; reconstituted
stone ridge stack to lodge to right, ashlar stacks with
moulded tops to ridge and gable end to rear of lodge to left.
Lodge to right has entrance front to left side; single-storey
2-window range. Ground floor has two C19 two-light timber
casements in plain reveals with stone cills, one plank door
with applied mouldings forming 3 vertical panels to right.
Elevation to Tetbury Road has one 3-light chamfered stone
mullion window. Ball finials at apex of gables to left and
right ends.
Lodge to left is L-plan with one gable to entrance front. 2
storeys and cellar; 2-window range. First floor has two
2-light chamfered stone mullion windows with iron casements,
ground floor has one similar 2-light and one similar 3-light
window. Door with Tudor-arched head with panels formed by
applied mouldings in chamfered surround to left, similar plank
door in wall to right. Ashlar plinth; ball finials to coped
gables to front and left side. Grille to cellar in ground to
right front.
Road front to left has 2-light window to first floor, 3-light
window to ground floor, moulded string over ground floor.
Two C19 foot gates and pair of large gates with spear tops, 2
ashlar piers approximately 2.5m high with plinth and pyramidal
capping form entrance between lodges; similar pier in wall to
right of lodge to right. INTERIORS not inspected.
