SK1109NE LOMBARD STREET 1094-1/5/109 (South East side) Nos.12 AND 12A
GV II
House, now house and office with workshop range to right. Probably late C17, with early C20 alterations. Brick with roughcast to facade; tile roof with brick stacks. Cross wing to right end with re-entrant block and C19 rear wing. 2 storeys; 4-window range; hipped right end and gabled re-entrant. Brick to ground floor of re-entrant and to left, the rest roughcast. Entrance to left of re-entrant; entrance to wing has panelled doorcase with cornice, overlight to glazed and fielded-panel door. Windows are early C20 transomed 2- and 3-light casements. Stack to rear of ridge; cross-axial stack and return lateral stacks to wing. Right return has exposed early brick with ashlar dressings to angle, riven rafter ends visible; casement windows; rear gable with glazed door and window to each floor; old brick visible to rear return. INTERIOR: chamfered beams; dogleg staircase has turned balusters, square newels with ball finials and moulded handrail; top of wall post is exposed at head of stair; C17 six-panel door with H-hinges and 2-fielded-panel door to 1st floor. 1st floor originally packed with straw. Workshop range has 2-storey gabled front with 2 entrances with paired plank doors; single-storey rear range with original doors and windows. An interesting building where further investigation might reveal other early features.
