II

Farmhouse. Built after enclosure of 1772 and before deed of 1796. Brick laid to Flemish bond with buff headers and ashlar dressings; hipped tile roof with brick stacks to returns. U-plan; wings to rear. Georgian style. 3 storeys; symmetrical 3-window range. Centre breaks forward under pediment. Platt bands over ground and first floors; top modillioned brick cornice; end pilaster strips. Round-headed entrance has key to arch, doorcase with pilaster strips and consoled open pediment, fanlight with margin lights over 6-panel door (4 fielded, 2 flush). Windows to ground and 1st floors have sills, and rubbed brick flat arches with keys over 12-pane sashes; 2nd floor has windows with sills and 8-pane sashes. Returns have platt bands. Rear has wings with lean-to outshuts flanking C20 lean-to infill in front of gable to stair projection; outshut to right has entrance to right end; 2 small windows to outshuts; wings have segmental-headed windows, with 3-light small-paned glazing with iron opening casements, one to 2nd floor right has leaded glazing; 2 small windows above outshut. Left return has segmental-headed windows: 3-light transomed casement with tall 2-light casement to right which has cross-casement above. INTERIOR: former rear entrance has plank door; dogleg staircase has column-on-vase balusters, the vase elements against solid panels. A good example of an enclosure farmstead of the late C18.
