GV II

Pair of houses. 1836-7. Brick with buff headers and stucco dressings; slate roof with brick end stacks. Georgian style. 2 storeys; symmetrical 4-window range. Top brick cornice. Round-headed entrances and entry to centre have blind fanlights with faint radial glazing-bar pattern, No.54 with 4-flush-panel door, plank door to entry and C20 half-glazed door to No.55. Canted bay windows to ground floor have cornices over 4:12:4-pane sashes, that to No.55 altered; windows to 1st floor have sills, with rusticated wedge lintels over 12-pane sashes. Part of the early C19 development of the north part of Stratford, known as New Town. (Information from Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Record Office).
