House, then public house, now shop and flat. C17 re-fronted
c1800 with later second floor. Brick with some internal
timber-frame; tile roof with brick end stack. Gable facing,
front to right: Waterside.
Three storeys; 5-window range. Top brick cornice. Canted angle
entrance with rich ashlar moulding above paired half-glazed
doors. Three shop windows and carriage entrance to right end,
which has wrought-iron gates. Windows to upper floors have
brick sills, and brick flat arches over 16-pane horned sashes
to first floor, 2-light small-paned casements to second floor. Left
return to Sheep Street similar; remains of painted sign:
WHEAT[SHE]AF INN; two shop windows in ashlar surrounds with
frieze and dripstone; left angle has wall post to ground and
first floors.
INTERIOR: broadly chamfered beams to ground floor and some
exposed framing to rear wall to ground floor; first floor noted
as having braced tie beam.
From the 1880s a public house: The Wheatsheaf. Included for
group value.
