Details

GLEN ROAD (South Side) SP 69 NW 2/122 NEWTON HARCOURT Hurst's Farmhouse II House. Dated 1712 and early C19. Red brick, with some dark bricks, and Welsh slate roof with brick ridge, left end and rear stacks. Main front to rear, 2 ranges, that to right of 1712. Right range of 2 storeys. 5 casements on 1st floor : from left, centre-opening 3-light, 2-light, centre-opening 3-light, 1-light and 3-light. 3-lights have cambered lintel. On ground floor, from left, 3-light, blocked door and 1-light, centre-opening 3-light, door and 3-light, this last with cambered lintel . Plinth and band. Left range of early C19, possibly on C18 foundations. 3 storeys : a centre-opening 3-light casement on lst and ground floors and, on 2nd floor, a 3/3 sash window, 3-light horizontal sliding sash, 3/3 sash, and 1-light casement. On ground floor, to right, a gabled porch and 6-panelled door, the top 4 panels glazed. Facing Glen Road are various casements, 2 2/2 sashes and a part-glazed door. Inside are chamfered beams and 2 inglenook fireplaces. Facing Glen Road, on the earlier range, a stone tablet inscribed 'B' over 'RA 1712'. Formerly called The Poplars. V.C.H., Vol.V.
