4/11 The Dower House
- II
House. Late C17 and C18. Coursed gritstone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. C20 panelled door in chamfered surround with dripmould, to right of centre, with small window to left. 5-light recessed chamfered mullion windows to ground floor, 3- and 4-light mullion windows above, all with drip-moulds. Ashlar gable coping and end corniced stack. Lower 2-storey, 3-bay extensions to left and right, with C20 extension and alterations. The Dower House forms part of the south range of the group of buildings shown as The Stables on the Ordnance Survey map. All the buildings were converted c1975 into private houses, and the group is now known as Rudding Dower. North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular Buildings Study Group Report No 300, June 1977.
